GLOSSARY

THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRICK LINTELS AND BEAMS THAT HAVE DIFFERENT TECHNICAL PROPERTIES.

From our experience, great sums of money are often spent in the optimization of lintels and brick beams, as well as in their integration within the building. Carlsberg Bjælker™ offers its expertise in order to optimize costs when choosing lintels and brick beams.

BRICK LINTELS

A pre-stressed brick lintel with 1, 2 or 3 layers is a pre-fabricated lintel that doesn't support only its own weight, but also forms part of the existing masonry as part of a composite brick beam.

COMPOSITE BRICK BEAMS

A composite brick beam consists of a brick lintel and of layers built on-site. The load capacity depends on the number of interdependent layers without gaps, for example, connected by wall felt. Please note that the brick beams need to be supported during the construction, according to the mounting instructions.

PRE-FABRICATED MASONRY BEAMS

A pre-fabricated brick beam with independent load capacity is used as a stand-alone structure. After calculations, it can support additional load or the existing masonry. As a pre-fabricated brick beam it is a stand-alone structure, the existing masonry isn't included in the calculation of the total strength and thus doesn't count for the load capacity. On the leaflet, these beams are described as ”masonry beams”.
