CALCULATION OF INTERIOR WALLS

INSIDE COMPLETELY BRICK-MADE HOUSES - WITH A BRICK FAÇADE, BACK-UP WALLS AND PARTITION WALLS - A GOOD AND NATURAL INDOOR CLIMATE IS MAINTAINED.

Thus, a house completely made of bricks offers its occupants many benefits with regard to comfort, for example, a stable room temperature and optimal noise absorption against outside noise and against noise coming from the other rooms.

Furthermore, brick-built back-up walls and partition walls contribute to the creation of a rustic environment, through walls with abrasive plaster or completely unprocessed, so-called ”blank walls”.

DEMAND PER M2

A brick in normal Danish format is 228 mm long, 108 mm wide and 54 mm high, while joints are usually 12 mm wide.
The calculated demand is 63 pcs. per m², however it's advisable to plan in advance, in order to avoid shortages. We would recommend 66 pcs. per m².

CALCULATION OF THE AREAS OF BACK-UP WALLS AND PARTITION WALLS

For the area of the back-up masonry - the façade’s inner side - for the sake of simplicity, the same area can be set as for the façade. Although the inner size is somewhat smaller than the façade, additional bricks are needed on the back-up masonry for door and window openings.
For the calculation of the partition walls’ area only one side of the divide will be calculated of course, minus the door openings.

CONVERSION OF FRONT SQUARE METRES IN PIECES OF BRICK

The total façade surface in m², minus doors and windows, will be multiplied by 66.

SELECTION OF BACK-UP BRICKS

For back-up walls and partition walls you can use more brick types with different features:

  • Machine-processed ”hand-made back-up bricks” with 3 or 4 visible sides
  • Extruded bricks with vertical perforations or massive extruded bricks
  • Highly porous light bricks with sawdust
  • Moler bricks

PLASTERED, WHITEWASHED OR BLANK WALLS

Light bricks with saw dust, Moler bricks and extruded bricks are mostly plastered.
When the walls need to be treated with abrasion or felt plaster, the machine-processed ”hand-made bricks” are recommended. If the partition walls need to be treated on both sides with abrasive plaster, the machine-processed ”hand-made bricks” with visible sides are recommended, so that the walls are similar on both sides.
For indoor ”blank walls”, we use facing bricks.
